“Be happy with what you have and are, be generous with both, and you won’t have to hunt for happiness”

— William E. Gladstone: British Liberal Politician

Your guide to complete happiness

Happiness—is the term we hear more often, especially today, when people are living extremely busy and stressed lifestyle. All that an individual wants in his life is a caring partner, a cool high-paying job, and happy contented life. The obvious question here is despite having everything that is required for a happy life, why most of us are not happy with our lives?

Ask yourself : Are you happy?

You have a nice-paying job, your boyfriend/girlfriend loves you like crazy, you attend lavish parties and there are a group of people who you can call your own. So, logically, you have everything that one needs for a happy life. All these things define one’s happiness, so despite having all these if still you feel sad and lost, then it becomes important to ask yourself, why am I not happy?

There could be various reasons and here we are listing a few to help you find out the reason for your unhappiness.

  1. You worry: “Don’t think too much, you will create a problem that wasn’t even there in the first place”—this is a very famous proverb. Individuals think a lot and worry about unimportant things. Some of the most common worries in an individual’s life are, ‘what others will think,’ ‘what if nothing goes as per the plan,’ ‘what if I won’t be able to give my best,’ etcetera.
  2. You are still living in your past: “We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it.” Most people are prisoners of their past. They keep thinking about their past, as a result, they are not able to enjoy their present. Do you also keep thinking what has happened in your past, and what could you have done and shouldn’t have done?
  3. You keep grudges: By holding grudge you only harm yourself. Keeping a grudge is like drinking poison —you harm yourself and nobody else.

Habits you can take to be happy :

It is possible for everyone to live a life they love, because happiness comes from within. By changing the way you think and you do things, you can change the way you feel about your life. Remember, happiness is a choice, and we all can develop it. Here are a few habits that you can take to be happy:

  1. Put yourself first : It’s your life, so do what you love, instead of doing what makes others happy. Love yourself the way you are, accept yourself the way you are, accept your differences and moreover, cherish them. Cherish yourself, celebrate yourself.
  2. Choose carefully with whom you spend your time : It is important to find out whose presence in your life, really matters. Focus on making a few real friends instead of having a bunch of so called “friends” who usually disappear in times of needs.
  3. Learn to say “No” : Don’t say yes, when you really mean no. Saying “No” to friends, family, colleagues and loved ones is hard. But hardly saying “no” has more bad consequences than you think. Always remember, “Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind, so be who you are and say what you feel.”
  4. Dare to try new things : Most people are afraid of what might or might not happen. It is good to be sure about what you are going to do and its consequences, but don’t be afraid to do something new in your life. Don’t think what people might think about you, what if plan doesn’t work and more such things; just do it because it makes you happy.

In conclusion

Remember “True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future,” so learn to live in the moment instead of worrying about the future or thinking about the past.
