“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it”

— Bruce Lee: action film actor, martial arts instructor,

philosopher, filmmaker.

Ask yourself whose life you are living?

Do you think you are living a life that someone else has chosen for you? You are not alone, there are a number of people who are living a life that someone else—parents, family, society, or culture have determined for them.

How right is it to live a life that others have chosen for you?

It is your life and you have all the rights to decide what is best for you and what you want to do with it. Like everybody else, even you must have some goals and dreams about what you want from your life.

Who has chosen this life for you and why you are living it?

Every parent wants their kids to become a lawyer, engineer and doctor and be straight. But what if you won’t be your best by taking up any of these roles? And by pursuing what you have always loved and cherished—may be a hobby of yours, you could be someone really exceptional and outstanding? Every individual knows where their happiness resides, but still they choose to life a miserable and emotionally disastrous life. However they don’t realize they are choosing it. Usually, people take up a life that others chose for them, because they are scared of rejection, they want to fit in by being what others have chosen for them.

Why fit in, when you were to stand out?

  • Don’t be scared to hear your inner voice: Your life is only yours, people can try to influence you, convince you, but they can’t decide for you. People can walk with you, but not in your shoes. As a result, ensure the path you chose to walk aligns with your desires and your own intuition. Also, you should not be afraid to switch paths or create a new one when it feels the best.
  • Chose your happiness over anything else: When you don’t choose your life, and don’t make choices for your life, no matter how desperately you want to be happy, you will never be happy and more importantly you won’t ever feel contented with your life. There will always be a void that won’t be filled with any love or even by spending a handsome amount of money. As a result, it becomes very important that you remain true to yourself and do what you want.

How to find out whether you are being true to yourself or not?

Not being true to yourself can include anything that you do without your full heart in it. It can include, being at an event that you hate, laughing at something that is funny for others but not for you, complementing someone just to be polite, acting happy when you feel awful or vice versa, hiding your true opinion because it is different from what others have to say about something or someone and many more.

Dare to be different and dare to be you

There’s nothing wrong in being different and come out as who you truly are. We are living in 21st century where everybody has the right to express what they feel, so why not? Also, remember that by not being true to yourself you will be making your universe unhappy as well. Think about this, if the universe had wanted you otherwise, it would have created you otherwise.

Always keep one thing in mind; it always makes more sense to be

at the bottom of the ladder you wish to climb than at the top of the one you hate.

Remember, if you are not for yourself, who will be for you? So make decisions and choices for your life, and bear the consequences. Have the courage to accept yourself the way you are, and not as someone else just to be accepted and fit in amongst the crowd. Be you and be happy!
