How to deal with adversity and take its charge

  • Everyone has to deal with adversity at one or other moment of life. Adversity takes charge of our confidence, our faith in ourselves, relationships, careers and happiness.
  • Examples of adversity are death of a loved one, divorce, illness, job loss, etc.

Look at the aim and not the difficulty

  • Turn to a new chapter; think positively about an event or incidence that has affected your life, instead of thinking negative about the difficulty that it has brought.
  • Make it a goal for yourself to conquer adversity, overcome it and become a leader or mentor for everyone else who is having difficulties in life.
  • Emphasize on the positive it has brought in your life, maybe it brought you closer to your partner or friends. Think in a different manner; keep yourself on the top in your life’s priority list.
  • You may tend to think that help yourself first is selfish. Well, think again. Remember the security rule when you are on a plane? In case of a problem, oxygen masks will pop out and the first thing you need to do is to put your mask on first. After you place your mask first, then you can help the person next to you, even if it is a child. Why is this? Because if for some reason you can’t help the other person fast enough, he/she and you won’t be able to breathe. This is why you need to be in great shape first in order to help anybody else.

Prepare a list of your achievements and read it daily

  • Overcome difficulty by preparing lists. Write down about your accomplishments. Re-read it many times in a day or before going to bed at night.
  • Prepare one more list of your objectives. How can you work through the difficulties? Write down your plan of action to reach your goal.
  • Prepare a vision board. Include positive images of your goal, inspiring thoughts and old pictures that bring out positivity and happiness in you.

Everything once become a past- even the difficult times

  • Don’t think that difficult times will remain with you always. Just like happy times, even sad times will pass.
  • Make plans for your future–the career you wish to have, the people you want to be surrounded by, the things you want to see etc.

  • Be clear about, what you are willing to do, and what is unacceptable to you. 
  • Do what feels right. Take steps to improve your confidence, instead of surrounding yourself with people who pull you down.

Laugh very often

  • Laugh to take away the seriousness of your condition. Laugh several times in a day; this will help you heal quickly from the emotional pain.
  • Look at your old pictures with your friends and family. Your old hairdo and dressing will definitely make you laugh.
  • Be thankful for all that you learned in all these years and all you will continue to learn.
